Ibuprofen, commonly known by its trade name Brufen, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and reduce fever in conditions such as arthritis, sprains, and other body regions. It is one of the most widely used pain medications in the world, with over $2 billion in global sales in 2018.
The global Ibuprofen market has been experiencing significant growth, driven by several key factors. As of 2023, the market size was valued at approximately $16.6 billion and is expected to grow to $20.9 billion by 2031, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 2.2% from 2024 to 2031[1][4].
Several factors are driving the growth of the Ibuprofen market:
The rising incidence of drug-induced pain due to the growing prevalence of drug-related chronic pain (Rochester Syndrome, Migraine, Headache) is a significant driver. This rising prevalence is connected with the rising number of people suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis among others[1].
The aging population is more likely to suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, which are two chronic inflammatory diseases that can cause Rheumatoid arthritis-related joint damage. Ibuprofen, like many NSAIDs, is associated with an increased risk of Rheumatoid arthritis-related joint damage[4].
The development of new formulations, delivery methods, and delivery systems is a significant growth initiative. Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), has been used to treat pain in various conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis for over 60 years. Its use has resulted in significant market growth[1][4].
Despite the challenges that Ibuprofen faces, there are significant opportunities ahead. The high cost of Ibuprofen, combined with the availability of generic versions, pose challenges to generic drug manufacturers. Generic manufacturers cannot produce the same quality ibuprofen as their branded drugs, leading to competition from generic drug manufacturers[4].
Rising prevalence of Rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis is a major driver of the Ibuprofen market. This increasing incidence of Rheumatoid arthritis-related joint damage leads to an increased need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to manage this condition[4].
Increased awareness of Rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, particularly among young people, is driving market growth[4].
